Justice, Development and Peace Caritas Commission of the vhas concluded arrangement to hold an election sensitization and good governance road show and a Dinner Night in readiness for the 2019 general elections.
In a release signed by the Commission’s head of media and communication, Mr. Kelechi Eke, the road show is to draw the attention of Imo electorate on the need for a peaceful and violence free elections in 2019.
The release stated that in line with the Commission’s position as a link between the Church and Society, especially in the area of good governance advocacy, the Commission is compelled to educate the voters on the need to shun violence, vote buying, thuggery and other forms of electoral malpractices during the forthcoming elections, and on the other hand vote for credible candidates who has the capacity and antecedents to perform well and change the ugly narrative in the State and Country.
According to the Commission, the people need to understand that they have to first of all be alive in order to benefit from whatever dividends that may come out of the choices they make, hence the need to avoid acts capable of endangering their lives.
The road show which will take place on Wednesday 11th of December will kick off at Assumpta Cathedral premises by 9 in the morning and will go through Assumpta Avenue, Bank road, Wethdral road and back to Assumpta Cathedral. The release further stated that some Human Rights activists are expected to join the Commission in the road show which will be led by the Director, Rev Fr Dr. Gerald Njoku.
The release said that the Commission is also holding a Dinner Night for Friends and Partners of JDPC on Friday December 14, 2018 to raise funds for the activities of the Commission.
